Over the course of a decade, he held technical sales and product management positions first with W. R. Grace & Company and then with NAPP Systems Inc., a subsidiary of MacDermid Graphic Arts.

Lapinski joined manroland in 1990, working in newspaper web product management. Manroland's share of the double width newspaper market in North America grew during his tenure from less than 15 percent to more than 50 percent. In addition, significant inroads in the single-width market were made.

In 2001, Lapinski was placed in charge of all web press operations at manroland, Inc., as COO he took on the commercial side of the business as well as newspaper. He subsequently streamlined and revitalized the Commercial Web Division. As COO of the Web Operations, he ran a division that included a staff of over 100, generating $150-200 million in annual sales. All web press operations in North America were under his purview, including project management, application engineering, parts, service, training, sales and marketing.
